Senior Spotlight: Nathan Neihof
Nathan Neihof, a third generation graduate of Kentucky Mountain Bible College, will complete his degree this May with a Bachelor of Arts in Youth Ministry. Nathan began feeling called to the ministry as a senior at Mt. Carmel High School. For three years Nathan served as the youth pastor at Bear Pen Community Church, and has traveled for KMBC singing with Harmony, Redeemed, and LifeSong. Currently, the Lord has led Nathan to serve as Worship Pastor at Lafayette Church of the Nazarene in Lexington, Kentucky.
Having been born and raised in the KMBC community, Nathan grew up in a God-fearing home where he was admonished to serve the Lord. Though Nathan gave his heart to the Lord at an early age, he began to fall away in middle school. On Saturday, March 5th, 2005 as Nathan was watching the news with his father; Nathan began to weep over the sin and hypocrisy in his life. Nathan repented of his way and turned to Jesus as his Savior and Keeper.
As a freshman at KMBC, Nathan came to the crises experience of entire sanctification during the spring revival services held by Rev. Claude Nicholas. Throughout Nathan’s time at KMBC, God has broken his pride and shown him his need to rely on Christ’s power and strength. Seeing what it means to be completely in love with Jesus through the lives of the faculty, staff, and fellow students has created a deeper hunger for more of God in Nathan’s life.
Some of Nathan’s most memorable moments include sitting in Gospels class with Rev. David Street and listening to Dr. Speas preaching. Nathan recounted one day as Mr. Street was expounding on the beatitudes of Matthew five, and Mr. Street began to weep. One could feel the presence of God step into the classroom! God does not just meet KMBC students in the chapel, but in the everyday classroom! Through the years, Nathan has admired Dr. Speas’ spiritual leadership. To see Dr. Speas’ face stained by tears as he preaches, is a demonstration of his love for God and passion for the student body. Nathan is grateful for the lifelong friends who will continue after KMBC in both the hard and joyous times of ministry.
Following graduation, Nathan will be united in marriage on May 21st to Melissa Mathieu, a 2011 graduate in the Communications program. Nathan Neihof plans to continue serving in ministry at Lafayette Church of the Nazarene in Lexington, Kentucky.
"Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God." – Hebrews 12:1-2
